Tips From An Excel Addict'...

- Michael S.
Hi
Francis, I have been following you for quite a while now and I really
am impressed with your quick and easy tips, thank you so much for all
your efforts. This latest
one... it's like the 'Wow,
I could have had a V8' commercial. So simple but I never
thought of using the CTRL A and seeing the display.
July 12, 2018 - Paul W.
Thanks
Francis. That
was one of my bugbears - especially when the tooltip obscures the cell
that I want to click on to include in my formula. A great
example
of Excel Addict gold: something that's really easy ... if only you'd
ever thought to do it.
July 4, 2018
- Simon L.
Appreciate all your tips – have been receiving them since 2006(!), and
always learning something new.
April 10,
2018 - Steve S.
Francis,
Simple though it may be, even I learned something new here.
Being
a math nerd, I knew all about how time is recorded in Excel, but the
Time function (TIME(0,15,0)) was a new one for me. It's very rare for
me not to learn anything at all from one of your posts.
April 6,2018 - Nancy
S., Staff Accountant
Thank
you, your directions as always are spot on.
February 28,
2018 - Michael M.
I

of your
suggestions I use regularly. So thank you.

My
boss sent us a copy of your newsletter and I subscribed because I am
always looking for ways to utilize excel more successfully. I’m in
finance and we use excel constantly I have attended 3 excel classes
over the last 15 years and they always hit on the basic knowledge. Your
tips seem immeasurably more helpful in my day to day job
Looking
forward to learning from you!
September 14,
2017 - Judy S (USA)
Hi
Francis, THANK YOU! You
just saved us a ton of time and
energy! I’ve made notes so we don’t have this
issue
again.
It was so easy once you know the steps! I brag on you and
your
tips and assistance all the time and will continue to recommend you to
all who will listen!
August 10, 2017 - Pam Y. (UK)
Hello
Francis, I have been using excel for more years than I care to
remember! and I
could
not image doing my job without this fantastic tool. My excel knowledge
is mostly self taught and I am sure I have only just scratched the
surface. Since finding your site yesterday I have already stated using
a couple of the shortcuts - your
instructions are so
clear, thank you! Looking forward to gaining more
expertise (with your help 🙂)
August 10,
2017 - Mario O.
I really enjoy your new letters, I have learned much more
form your tips than from any manuals.
Gracias.
May 3, 2017 - Christopher B.
Never
been THAT much of a user till I read your excellent E_mails,
now I've
progressed to where I don't have to pay College kids to do my
spreadsheets for me, so you saved me a bunch of dough!
May 3, 2017 - Diane L.
Oh!
My! Goodness!!!! I could not use Ctrl+Shift+0 in Excel 2016
and
it was such a disappointment but you have solved
this! I am giddy
right now. Thank you SOOO much for showing me the
Control Panel
trick to make that work once again! Yay!
March 29, 2017 - Vinod N.
I
have been subscribing to your news letter for a long time now, the best
thing I like is that you explain complex things in a simple way.
Keep
up the good work !!!
March 28, 2017 - Matt H., V.P, CFO
I
just wanted to take a second and tell you how much I enjoy your XL
tips. I refer to them often. Additionally, you just seem to be a
delightful person with a wonderful attitude. I enjoy hearing
about what is going in your part of the world and your personal stories
very much. Looking
over your email every few days is something I look forward to for the
tip and to see what interesting things you are up to.
March 28, 2017 - Kathy M.
Yea!!!!
If I never learn anything else . . . I will be happy just to have found
this out!
March 28, 2017 - Deb M., Budget
Analyst
Who
knew?!? That's always been an annoyance
for me -- no longer!! Thanks again! :-D
March 22, 2017 - Arlene
Your
information is always useful and interestingly explained and
I looked at a lot of these back ... when I was working..., it
was
always kind of de-stressing and comforting to see also your pictures
and personal notes, even if just explaining a temporary technical
glitch with the blog. For me as a reader, your
notes remind us you're not just a (generous) expert,
but
also, a real person vs. some mindless marketer. And the world needs all
the Nice Guys we can get.
March 8, 2017 - Swanlyn
I
accidentally found your site today and just love
the layout and the way you explain things. It's so easy to follow.
Thank you very much and I look forward to receiving your tips.
March 2, 2017 - Steven S.
Thanks
again for continually making me a better Excel user.
February 23,
2017 - Karen G.
Thanks again so much for your assistance! That saves me a
lot of time and gives me reassurance that I am getting the
result I am looking for. In a large set of data, it is sometimes
difficult.
December 15,
2016 - Hanne S. (Strasbourg, France)
Thank
you for all your great Excel tips. I'm an addict for sure, I looove
Excel and have become quite good over the years, I can now juggle with
macros and formulas. However, I'm always
looking forward to receiving
your tips as I almost always find a new or better way of doing things.
December 15, 2016 - Philip Z.
Thank
you for the help that you provide all of us here. I have been
able to use the tools that you have given us on multiple facets of my
job. I wish that I was able to do more with them. You keep
me on the edge always wanting to see the next newsletter
so I can learn
something new and hopefully be able to apply it.
November 16,
2016 - Derek D.
THIS
WAS AN AMAZING TIP!!! Actually, I enjoy all your tips but this
one really struck me for its simplicity and usefulness in my day-to-day
job. Can't wait to share it with my colleagues.
Thank you for all
your articles Mr. Hayes. It has really helped me a lot and
look
forward to receiving your tips in my inbox.
November 16, 2016 - Corinne M.
Great
tip Francis! I never knew that was available. I don't
tell you often
enough how much I enjoy - and learn from - your Excel tips. I have been
receving them for nine years now and I always find something new and
useful. My Thanks!
November 16, 2016 - - Kathy W.
I
absolutely love your tips! I love that they come one at a
time,
so you have a chance to actually use them and get used to using
them. They are quick and easy to read, and not
overwhelming. And I love that they are usually something easy
to
pick up yet something that will save you time and
frustration.
You
have hit upon the perfect format!
November 10,
2016 - - Jennifer S.
I
thought I was pretty familiar with the “basics” of Excel…but can’t
believe I hadn’t stumbled across this trick earlier!
Thank you so
much for sharing, I’m sure I will use it frequently. I have
subscribed to your email for a several years now, and enjoy hearing
both the tips and the personal anecdotes you share about running and
Canada.
September 28, 2016 - Sue O.
This is awesome!!!!! Gonna make
this soooo much easier for me.
September 27,
2016 - Richard H.
Looking
forward to learning a bunch of new tips and tricks. I’ve used Excel for
a long time but mostly in a relatively basic way. My new job with an
auditing company requires a lot more analysis of larger data sets.
Several
of my colleagues in the office really like your newsletter.
Thanks in advance for all the info!
May 14, 2016 - Rene’ V.
Hi
Francis, I couldn’t wait to try it, WOW, Man it is easy if you know
how. Once again, Thanks a
million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 11, 2016 - Sanjeeb R.
Hi
Francis, The kind of energy and enthusiasm that you are showing
remarkable, with such energy level one can stay younger through out the
life. Great job. Though, initially I subscribed to learn more tricks
about Excel but the quote of the day is heart touching and motivating
as well. Efficient
knowledge in Excel will certainly boost up
productivity level and that is the reason of subscribing your
newsletter. I always try to read all of your emails. I too
agree with
you, merely listening or reading will not be beneficial until I
practice it. You keep smiling and God bless you.
April 4, 2016 - Theresa C.
That
was perfect! What
used to take me hours I can now do in a matter of a few minutes.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
March 23.

March

Thank
you Francis! I have
learned SO MUCH from your Excel helps over the
many years that you have been doing this for all of us
wannabe Excel
experts. Thank you and I’m looking forward to keep learning
from
my home now instead of work.
February 10, 2016 - Jessica S.
I
want to tell you that I get several Excel newsletters, and some of them
I delete without opening if I’m already familiar with the topic in the
subject line. Yours,
however, I always open. There’s always
a chance that I will learn a new twist on an old tool and, if nothing
else, I enjoy your personal updates and Quote of the Day (I love
quotes). Thank you for taking the time to produce your
newsletter; I hope to benefit from it for years to come!
February 2,
2016 - Thomas S.
Awesome Francis - I've been
wondering about this for years! Thanks a
ton.
February 2,
2016 - Peter R.
No
way! You continue to surprise me with these little tips that I never
knew or even thought of…. Even when I’ve been using Excel for literally
decades. Amazing. Thanks Francis. Subscribing
to Excel Addict was the best move I ever made! Cheers.
November 9, 2015 - Ginene H.
Hello
Francis, thanks for the tip, that is exactly what I was looking for, it
really makes
life easier for me ! Thanks again, Simon T.
November 9, 2015 - Ginene H.
Francis,
I’ve always been considered the Excel wizard, but your tips
often give
me insight into another aspect I haven’t explored yet.
Thanks again.
And keep up the good work!
August 28, 2015 - Cathy H.
I
have saved every email tip I have received over the last several
years. I consider
them priceless. Thank you for all you do for
us.
August 10, 2015 - Sally

Hi
Francis, just wanted to say how much I love your tips and I look
forward to receiving them each week. Some don't have any relevance to
me, but I file them away in case my needs change in the future - but there are
some which are absolutely magic and totally transform my life.
One of these was your "Create Your Own My Links Page" from September
11, 2013.
I
used it to create my own My Links page, which over time has grown and
grown and is in use constantly. Simple things that save a LOT of time
and aggravation.

Hi
Francis, keep up the good work with sharing Excel tips, have been
subscribing for almost 8 years now and still getting tips
I didn’t know
from time to time.
May 7, 2015 - Rebecca S.,

Francis,
Thanks for your tips! I have been on your mailing list
through several companies, and always have my staff join. Your tips
are so great and the training it takes off my desk is worth the weight
in gold!
May 7, 2015 - Marti N.
PERFECT!!!!
I
knew that you would have the answer. Thanks soo much
May 2, 2015 - Jemaville
Hi
Francis Hayes, I inputted the VLOOKUP formula you gave me and YES YES
YES, it's what I want and it works!!!! I am soooooooooooooo happy.
Thank you thank you thank you so so much!!!!!!
This is the second
time you've personally helped me, apart from the free TIPS that I get
from your newsletters. I'm really appreciative. Thank you again!
Sincerely, Jemaville
March 21,2015 - Christine K. Senior Supervising Analyst
Hi
Francis…just wanted to say THANK YOU!...your tip
is one of the most
time saving tips I have come across… I currently run a lot
of CSV data
reports which I frequently either ‘Save As’ Excel spreadsheets or
‘Copy’ and ‘Paste’ into existing workbooks. When I do this Excel
‘GROANS’ – I get the ‘white screen of death (our name for it LOL) and
Excel will get the dreaded ‘Not Responding’ for anything from 3-10
minutes. I tried you tip out this morning, dragging data from
a
CSV report into Excel and it worked
perfectly – took half a second… to
say I am TRILLED is an understatement!
March 21,2015
- Ginger L.
Thanks for all you do! I’ve sat through numerous classes and have
learned more from your tips than I ever did in class.
Your newsletter is much appreciated!
March 19, 2015 - Maurice B.
Hello
Francis – For years I have been receiving your tips, with not even a
“thank you” for your time, effort and dedication. I am not one for
chatting but instead take your tips and fly away with them and try them
out. They have helped me tremendously and even bailed me out when I
have been indecisive on how to resolve a problem or design a workbook.
Thank
you a million times for being my mentor.
March 6, 2015
- Steven D.
Francis, Excellent trick with the Document Location bar – what a
time saver it is going to be! I love it!!
February 27,
2015 - Alecia A.
You
will never know how many you are helping, and the way in which you are
helping---you just might be sharing tools that will help someone
perform well enough to keep their job, get promoted and to have the
ability to help someone else, their family, colleagues, etc.
Your
blessings will be overly abundant, because you are so generous, it will
come back to you and your generations in ways you would never have
imagined! Thank you for being who you are!!!!

Hi
Francis, I just wanted to send you a quick email to give you some
feedback on your webinar recommendations. I recently really enjoyed the
dashboard webinar so much and learnt such a lot that I quickly signed
up for this one too! Both webinars are fabulous, easy to understand and
with good practical examples. I am so
excited to be able to start using
some of the new skills, my mind is buzzing with all the possibilities
:) I was also fascinated by your recent pictures of the
snow you have
experienced there! I have seen snow once in my life and that was just a
sprinkle so my mind grappled with the thought of such a vast amount. I
felt cold just looking at your pictures! Like most of my fellow Aussies
I complain that it a cold wintery day if it only gets to 12 decrees
Celcius and that might actually be a mild/warm day for you guys!!!
Please keep up the photos and commentary. I love receiving your
newsletters and I have picked up so many valuable tips from
them.
Thanks for so generously sharing your knowledge :) warm regards

Hello
Francis! Thank you very much for your great work, I am a huge
enthusiast of your newsletter. I eagerly wait for them every Friday.
Keep up the excellent work you do, it's amazing and above all, you are
colaborating to make this a better world. I just loved the tip about
filling in the cells with the weekdays, this will save me a great deal
of time! :) Previously, I used the WEEKDAY function but it's much more
easier with your tip. Awesome! I appreciate that you also share with us
the pictures of snow in your area. It's something completely new for me
because as I live in South America (Paraguay), there is not snow here
at all. Hope to have the chance to see snow personally someday. All the
best, have a wonderful week, Francis, take care!
Jan 29, 2015 - - Michael W.
Good
morning Francis, First, I would like to say thank you for providing
your excellent tips to so many people, asking nothing in
return. I am a very advanced Excel user
and still find many
things in your emails that help simplify my life.
For myself
and so many others, you do make a difference. Thank you and keep up the
great work.
Jan 22, 2015 - - Carolyn H.
Hi Francis, I just
signed up for Mynda’s course! Thank you
for
referring this course, it looks great and I am very
excited to take it.
I also wanted to mention how much I enjoy your newsletter each week. I
have referred you on to my fellow excel users and I hope they enjoy it
as much as I do. Thanks,.

My
quality of Excel life took a huge leap thanks to this tip
'A Sheet
to Sum all Sheets'. The bane of my existence was updating quarterly and
yearly summation formulas across workbooks. It was a perfect setup for
an error, and it took as much time error-checking as setting up. This
method is clear, concise, and elegant. Like many other Excel
techniques, it seems obvious after-the-fact, but it never would have
occurred to me. Thank you thank you thank you!

- - Kavli K.
Hi Francis, My name is Kavli, and I got information about you from my
Sr. Director. I’m glad I
signed up, because I already like your first
three tips! I use Excel every single day for reporting
purposes that my
job calls for. I look forward to learning more from you! Thanks for
this service! Thanks.

I
have subscribed to your website for the last 5 or so years & I
have learned a great deal from you over that period of time.
It
is fun to pass your tips along to co-workers & see them
realize what a great tool Excel can be!

This
is fabulous! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all
your tips! I’m always amazed at how easy things CAN be, if
only you know how! So many of
your tips are huge “Ah ha!”
moments for me! Thank you so much!

Good
Morning, Francis; Let me start by telling you that I love your
newsletter! Absolutely fantastic. I am trying to learn VBA,
(and have not gotten too far yet) maybe you could do a small section on
that? Or a small section on charting in Excel. Thank you for
all of your work, keep it up.

- Tracey S.
Hi Francis, My name is Tracey and I am brand new to Excel. Up
to now I have worked with Lotus 1-2-3 on a very limited basis but now
my company is changing to Excel and I am going to be using it a lot
more. I was so glad to find your website! You have
already answered a couple of questions for me. I bought Excel
for Dummies but I must not be a Dummy because I can't make sense of it
at all. Your instructions, on the other hand, are very clear.
So I thank you and my boss thanks you! Look forward to your upcoming
newsletters!
Sep 04, 2014
- Richard B.
Francis, I’ve been using (and teaching) EXCEL® for years but I learn
something new from you on a regular basis. I keep all the
e-mails and keep a list of the topics so that I might find a use for
one of your hints at some point. I’ve subscribed to other EXCEL
newsletters in the past and haven’t got much from them so keep up the
good work and thanks for making me look smarter than I am!

- Kevin
J.
Hi Francis, Thanks for your time and effort on a weekly basis, too. I
have been receiving your emails for over 6 years now and I know that I
have added just a bit to your circulation through publicising your
Excellence on Facebook. Please keep up the good work, and thanks again
for the link to Mynda’s Dashboard course – it came
at just the right time for me, as the use of Dashboards for me at work
will grow exponentially in the coming year and beyond. Kind regards,

You are such a wonderful, faithful blessing to us. Microsoft
should be paying you big bucks! Thanks again.

Mr. Hayes; I have to tell you, there is nothing better that to receive
your newsletter, it is truly a treat. I love the way you give
us a glimpse into your personal life every week. Your newsletter
commentary was spot on! Keep up the great work you are doing.

- Jamie S.
Francis, I have been a subscriber for a couple of years now and have
never taken the time to say thank you for all that you do, so THANK
YOU! I share your sentiments on Excel users who have no desire to
expand their knowledge base and streamline their work. Tip #1 from this
week is immensely helpful. Within the last few months I was
given a second monitor and it has been wonderful. However, I
have only been able to open a new workbook as you described to use the
dual monitors. I can now look at separate worksheets within
the same workbook simultaneously and make changes to either and
save. This is great advice. Thanks again and have a great day!
Jun 1, 2014 -
Rod A., Program Finance Manager
Mr. Hayes, Have been a fan of your tips for several years, great help
to me. But #3 is got to be my all-time
favorite now. I’ve been buying a 3rd party tool just to do this
tip. Now I will not renew the tool next time, thank you, save
me $50 a year.
